Sichuan
province is situated in the south west of China, with 480
thousand square kilometers area and a population of 84.3 million,
which governs 13 cities and 3 municipalities. Sichuan Province
enjoys the reputation of ¡° the Land of Abundance¡± for its
abundant resources. After the reform and opening up, the economic
construction of Sichuan province progresses greatly and the
economic strength boosts up constantly. Sichuan is a province
with strong science and technology power and has produced
more than 1000 scientific productions, applied for 30000 patents,
and got 16878 authorizations. The science and technology power
of Sichuan leads the top in China.
Chengdu, the
capital city of Sichuan province, is the educational, commercial
and financial center of the southwest area of China. It is
a famous historical and cultural city with more than 2500
years¡¯ history. Chengdu is attractive for its Bashu culture
and beautiful tourism landscapes. It is an open city which
is actively striding forward to the internationalization.
After reform and opening up, the economic construction, social
career and people¡¯s living level have changed greatly. Especially
during ¡°95¡¯s Plans¡±, the reform and opening up and the modernization
construction in Chengdu got the great achievements. In 2001,
the gross national product of Chengdu was up to 149.1 billion
yuan, up by 13.1% over 2000. It has realized the aim that
GNP was triple of that in 1980 and people¡¯s living level is
higher and higher. Chengdu is one of the most important scientific
and educational centers in southwest China. In this great
city, there are a lot of national key universities and scientific
research or designing institutions with fairly strong scientific
and technological powers, advanced scientific research means
and comprehensive advantages. Many of the institutions for
scientific research have technical level and developing ability
that are in the top of the same trade of the whole nation.
